It's normal to photocopy a credit card?

I went to a fido store in Quebec today to renew my cell phone contract and the guy asked me 2 ID. He said that he can only accept Drivers licence's, credit card or Social Insurance card. I give him my driver's licence, and my credit card, an he made a photocopy of both of them. (but only one side of the card). I find that strange, and I call fido to ask them if it was normal, but their answer was not clear. What do you think of that? It's normal that the fido store guy made a photocopy of my cards?
