Any 'snowbirds' here? what's the best way to enjoy Michigan summers & Texas winters w/o paying for two places?

Texas gets so hot in the summer, people tend to stay inside. but my aching bones can't take another Michigan winter. Any suggestions on flying south when the snow comes without the financial burden of property tax, utilities, insurance, maintenance & two vehicles? who's done it/or is doing it? Hanging with friends & family is great but there's the risk of wearing out your welcome.
