Will denture cream help me with my partial?

i have an upper partial.my dentist said hardest thing to do is getting used to it.well after many months of having i am used to it.except the fact that at times when i eat .when it take a bite of like a sandwich,it tends to pull the partial down.can i use denture cream on partial to help keep it in place?
